Avoid Duplicates
How Unload detects products that already exist on your Shopify store and the options you have for each match.
Duplicate detection
When you transfer products, Unload automatically checks whether any of them already exist in your Shopify store. This prevents accidental double listings and gives you control over how conflicts are resolved.
Trigger a transfer
Select your products on the Products page and click "Send to Shopify". Before anything is sent, Unload compares your selected products against your existing Shopify catalog.
Review the duplicate detection modal
If matches are found, a modal appears listing each product alongside its potential Shopify counterpart. For every matched product, you have four options:
- Create new -- Ignore the match and create a brand-new product on Shopify.
- Update existing -- Merge data into the existing Shopify product. You can choose which fields to update using the field checkboxes (title, description, price, variants, images, SEO, ALT text).
- Add to stock -- Keep the existing product unchanged but add the incoming quantities to its inventory.
- Skip -- Do not transfer this product at all.
Products with no matches are transferred as new listings automatically.
Confirm and transfer
After making your choices for each duplicate, confirm the transfer. Unload processes each product according to your selections -- creating, updating, restocking, or skipping as specified.
The "Update existing" option with field checkboxes is useful when your supplier provides updated pricing or new images for products you already carry. Select only the fields you want to overwrite and leave the rest untouched.
If you select "Create new" for a product that already exists on Shopify, you will end up with two separate listings for the same product. Use this option only if you intentionally want a duplicate (for example, listing under a different category).
How matching works
Unload compares product titles and reference numbers against your Shopify catalog. If you have significantly renamed a product in Unload compared to how it appears on Shopify, the system may not detect it as a duplicate. In that case, the product will be transferred as a new listing.
